The program in Oviedo for this year is over. However this is just the beginning. We all have changed and improved for the better. Only time will tell how much we learned about Spain, the Spanish language and culture and about ourselves.
Here there are some pictures showing some of our last week activities: Farewell party, trips to Segovia and Madrid and going back to the airport.

Was very busy with preparations for the farewell party. However, on Tuesday we visited the Asturias Parliament and the President of the Parliament himself stop his busy schedule to talk to us at the very same place where the Asturias laws are created before they get sent to the government. On Thursday we kept playing soccer in the wonderful soccer field right in front of our school. Finally, on Sunday we did the Descent of the Sella River. We had lots of fun and got really wet as we were trying to reach our destination. We feel in shape after today canoe’s trip and ready to start our last week in Oviedo.

On Tuesday we visited Oviedo City Hall and were offered a historical tour of Oviedo. On Wednesday Gijón was waiting for us: the aquarium, the beach and the Roman baths were our main activities there along with a wonderful view of the sea horizon. On Thursday we played soccer inspired by the World Cup. On Friday plaza Transcorrales and our tango teacher Martin gave us the opportunity to practice our tango moves. On Saturday we experienced a dramatized visit to Teatro Campoamor.

We have danced and sung in a karaoke, climbed to the roof of Santiago de Compostela’s Cathedral and prepared the choreography of “Bailando” by Enrique Iglesias, which is almost ready.
Now we are right in the middle of our stay in Spain. Our Spanish is taking off and we feel more confident with it and eager to start our fourth week!

Learning bachata and tango, celebrating Corey’s and Lauren’s birthdays, attending la Fiesta de San Juan, travelling to Covadonga (the place where the Christian Reconquista of the Spanish Peninsula started), Cangas de Onis (with its beautiful Medieval bridge), to the origins of the Asturian Kingdom in Santa Maria del Naranco and the church of San Miguel de Lillo; having our auditions for our end-of-stay musical, and of course practicing our first tango steps in public in Oviedo at Plaza Trascorrales and more in our Picasa Google Plus link below.
Our first week is gone. Believe it or not time flies! We’re all facing challenges and making progress than we didn’t think possible. Check more pictures in our Picassa link below!
Here in Oviedo we enjoyed celebrating Ellie’s birthday, getting to know each other through team-building activities, trying new food or even dancing to salsa!

All students and on-site coordinators made it to Oviedo! We arrived safe and sound and all students are with their host families now. We have a couple of weekend days to rest, start learning about the Spanish culture, get ready for our stay and figure out if we pass the first round of the World Cup. The adventure has just begun! 🙂
The purpose of this blog is to inform parents, friends and family about the students’ whereabouts in Oviedo, Spain as they experience the summer of a lifetime.
